The Thursday evening concerts at the Millennium Garden have been very well-attended.
On July 20, the Good Neighbours Recorder Ensemble drew a record crowd, and a record amount was received in the silver collection. The group Two by Two also played a beautiful group of songs on harp, banjo, violin and recorder. Extra percussion and doubling up of instruments resulted in an excellent group.
All this took place on a night that looked like it would be cool, or even rainy. But calm weather prevailed. It did not rain, it did not feel cold, although we’ve had days of smoky skies, and sudden cool temps.
We are so pleased with attendance. So much so that we are ordering more chairs.
Now is the time also to thank the community for its support of our Canada 150 barbecue and parade on the afternoon of June 28.
The parade was made possible by all the people from our surrounding apartment blocks, piper Garth McComb and drummer Paul Klassen (not Luke, as I wrote in my June 5 column), and also with the support of our local politicians, Jeff Browaty and Cathy Cox, singer Andre Vallier and others, plus the 25 or more people who donated items for the silent auction.
Our hard-working committee, led by Dianne Wickenden and Darlene Karp, plus all the volunteer gardeners, are to be congratulated.
In the parade we registered 43 people:
Joan Potter; Verna Reimer; Fran Nort; Martha Thielman; Bettie and George Teichrieb; Edna Enns; D.D. DeFehr; Jean Yasiuski; Anne Mielimaka; Martha Parker; Michelle Galic; Lynne Strome; Deanna Neufeld; Minny Wiebe; Mildred Kozyniak; Agatha Wall; Agatha Bergen; Sandra Usenbergen; Dolores Wozniak; Alice McDonald; Elaine Peters; Darla Barlanski; Joyce Goertzen; Tina Froese; Lidia Shewenuk; Sarah Klassen; Agnes Roessler; Ella Schindel; Karen Gilmolk; Phyllis Neald; Sylvia Stybien; Y. Tlays; Mara Kpes; Fora Kibyes; Valene Wolbert; Jan Lipp; Gladys Jenkinson; Katie Wilkie; Naomi Hatherly; Eleanor Stelmack; Jeff Browaty; Judy Saranchuk; and Evelyn Sawchuk.
