Looking to beat the heat or stuck with kids on a rainy day?
May I suggest the Henderson Library? Located at 1050 Henderson Hwy. and open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m, the air-conditioned space is the perfect place to spend some time this summer.
“Anytime I get to be with my grandchildren and read stories is a wonderful experience,” said Carolyn, who sat with a pile of books and her grandson Ren by her side.
Today they have chosen stories about ancient civilizations in other countries, and a few with scary creatures.
“I also like reading stories about animals,” Ren said.
There is, of course, every type of book available at the library. The kids section always does a good job of displaying the latest and most popular, as well as titles from the MYRCA (Manitoba Young Readers Choice Awards) list. If young people read these locally written books, they can vote for their favorites by visiting www.myrca.ca
There are many comfy corners to curl up with a book and even though some kids are playing with the interactive toys in the play area, the atmosphere is quiet and inviting.
“The Henderson Library is a lovely space to sit with your family. The surroundings are very relaxing,” Carolyn said.
While perusing, I discovered that you can now check out magazines and was surprised to learn there is a huge selection of current DVDs, including tons of animated features.
Ren asked me what my favourite book was, and I hesitated to say, as I read mostly about boring adult political economics.
“I like books about animals too!”
