It is wonderful to be back from Ottawa for the summer to spend time in Kildonan-St. Paul with constituents. On Canada Day, the weather was beautiful, and it was great to see thousands of people enjoying the festivities with their families and neighbours. It is heartwarming that Canadians once again came together to celebrate our amazing country after two long difficult years.

Throughout the pandemic, governments were more intrusive in our lives than ever before and that created a lot of division. Many argued heavy-handed government action was needed, others believed they went too far; but when a crisis hits, we need both strong government action and a government that protects our rights and freedoms — that is when our democracy thrives.

Unfortunately, the Liberal government is failing in many cases to deliver action and services Canadians expect and deserve. Record high inflation and rising gas and food prices, long delays with passports, airport chaos, two major telecommunications outages in the past two years, continued boil-water advisories in First Nations communities, issues reaching climate change emission reduction targets despite the punitive carbon tax, and delayed immigration and refugee services — all are areas the Liberal government is failing to deliver for Canadians.

Of deep concern, after nearly eight years of the Liberals’ soft-on-crime approach, Canada’s neighbourhoods have become less safe with crime rates higher than when the Liberals first came to power in 2015. Winnipeggers and Manitobans are seeing this first-hand in the news, and I have heard from many of you that crime reduction is a top priority for the government to address.

Unfortunately, the Liberals continue to face issues of transparency and accountability with several scandals over the past few years: the Aga Khan ‘billionaire island’ trip, the disastrous India trip, the SNC-Lavalin affair, the vice-admiral Mark Norman case, the WE Charity scandal, and now the RCMP scandal in which credible allegations have been made that the Liberal government politically interfered in the RCMP investigation into the tragic 2020 Nova Scotia massacre.

Canadians want to trust their federal government. To gain this trust, the government must keep life affordable, effectively deliver services, protect Canadian rights and freedoms, and be accountable and transparent to the people they serve.

I will continue to work hard to keep the government accountable and represent you with the dignity, compassion, and respect you deserve. I hope you and your family are having a great summer.

Please feel free to reach out to my office at 204-984-6322 or raquel.dancho@parl.gc.ca to share comments or seek assistance regarding federal issues.
