A community fundraiser for the River Heights site of the Corydon Community Centre is still underway and needs your support.

“To date we have raised over $400,000 with the incredible generosity of our patrons, grant programs and more, to make dire improvements to the River Heights Arena, but we aren’t done yet,” said Abbie Bajon, general manager.”

“The City of Winnipeg provides 12 per cent of the overall operating budget while the rest is made up of hall rentals, ice rentals, programs and fundraising, so we have lots of work to do,” Bajon said.

While upgrades have been made to the River Heights Arena many more are needed.

The rink is home to over 25 hockey teams, ringette teams, figure skating, speedskating, seniors skating, family skates, and countless rental users.

“It is a much-loved and used neighbourhood facility that could no longer operate safely,” Bajon said. “It was shut down for eight months and we were able to install new boards, floors and brine lines to keep it safe but it still needs new stands, heat, (and a) score clock to name a few things that have yet to be done.”

The community centre has been offered a matching grant from the Carolyn Sifton Foundation whereby monies raised up to Nov. 1, 2023, will be generously matched by the foundation.

“These donations may enable us to fully complete the project,” Bajon said. For more information on how you can help and a full detailed description of the project visit https://corydoncc.com/facilities/river-heights-facilities/river-heights-arena/
