Rambling about… Food for Thought

Hey there, time traveller!

Some things are just so dang good you’ve gotta revisit them, and sometimes more than once.
Food For Thought is one of those placed. I have not only written about them, I’m also a very satisfied customer of this ready-made meal service business located at 840 Erin St.
As before, owner/operator Melanie Rushton will provide the answers to my queries, so let’s get started…

Food for Thought continues to prepare and deliver frozen meals.
Melanie how has business been since last we spoke? We’re not post-pandemic but nearing the end so I can only assume things have improved?
“The frozen meal side of the business really grew and continues to grow; we are speaking to new clients every day. Many of these customers are in real need of a meal service and are so excited to get started.”
What are your plans concerning the catering offered by FFT? Do you plan to resume catering or is that part of your business passé due to the high demand for the frozen foods?
“We have more staff working in the kitchen and our shipping department. Because of the growth of the frozen line, we have discontinued the catering side of the business, there simply is not enough room for both in our current facility.
“We are happy to see some of our catering clientele opting for frozen options like mac and cheese, beef chili, meatballs and gravy, shepherd’s pie and more. Most entrées come in a range of sizes including individual, 1 kilogram family and 2.5-kilogram party size. They can easily be heated in most lunchrooms and are an affordable alternative to catering.”
I next wanted to hear about any new products…and wow.
“Some newer products are sausage or bacon, egg and real cheddar breakfast sandwiches, Chinese orange glazed chicken, pizza or Greek quiche, bean and bacon bone-broth soup and mor.! Many of our customers have either stopped cooking or supplement their own cooking with FFT meals, the meals are our biggest seller by far.”
To remind readers of the Free Press Community Review, I’ll include one response Melanie gave me in my first column on Food for Thought:
“We cook all the meals ourselves and are proud to say they are very low in fat, sugar and sodium. They are for anyone who needs a healthy, home-style meal. Clients can call 204-772-3663 to order, or order online at www.foodft.ca We deliver citywide, or you can pick your order up at 840 Erin St.”
