As the MLA for the Maples, I have had many wonderful opportunities to fight alongside community members in the last four years. Both in celebration, and to support them in tackling the many challenges we have faced. I could not be prouder to represent the Maples, and I eagerly await the next chance to work with community members again this fall. As your MLA I have seen the ways in which the government’s cuts have harmed the well-being and future of our community, and it is our duty to fight for a better future.
Progressive Conservative cuts to health care have made wait times longer, overcrowded our hospitals, and affected Manitobans’ access to essential medical services. Our families deserve quality health care that is accessible and responsive to their needs, and it is unacceptable that community members needing help are forced to endure long wait times and struggle to find necessary health-care resources. As your MLA, I am committed to fighting against the cuts the government has forced on Manitobans and health-care workers and working to ensure that our community’s health is prioritized.
The government’s cuts to education have also negatively affected students, their families, and educators. Unfortunately, despite increased enrollment numbers and rising costs, the government has failed to provide funding that keeps pace with our community’s needs. My NDP colleagues and I have repeatedly pushed the government to adequately fund Manitoba’s schools so we can ensure class sizes are low, so we can provide educators with the supports they need to excel, and so we can support initiatives which keep students interested and educated.
I firmly believe that we deserve better than what we’re getting under this government. I will continue to advocate for adequate funding for health care and education, and pledge to continue engaging with community leaders, and collaborating with other MLAs to champion our shared concerns. Together, we can make a difference and build a thriving community that prioritizes the well-being, inclusivity, and the future of community members. Together, let us work towards a brighter future for all Manitobans, where health care and education are prioritized, and our community thrives.
