The 2023 South Osborne Biz Guided Restaurant Tour serves up a four-course meal with flavours and sights that will delight foodies and history buffs.

Running every Wednesday throughout July and August, the four-hour guided walking tour delivers a tasty primer in why South Osborne has become a culinary hotspot.

From sipping iced tea with peach slices and maraschino cherries to savoring bruschetta made with fresh tomatoes and basil and wild-caught arctic char, attendees will sample beverages and cuisine from up to four restaurants per tour.

Attendees will receive history lessons between stops at restaurants and shops. The tour guides will take attendees back to 1891 when the first electric car was tested on the Park line near Osborne and Jubilee. The trolley line later transformed South Osborne into a burgeoning neighbourhood.

The guides also describe current businesses in South Osborne, pointing out fascinating facts such as Burton Lysecki Books has more than 100,000 books in stock.

Dessert is served at the final stop. For some of the July tours, Chocolate Zen Bakery has created a decadent trio that includes a gluten-free lemon raspberry truffle torte, their signature Chocolate Zen torte and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.

Sponsored by Grape & Grain, Good Box Gifts, Liberty Tax Canada, Friend Bakery, Black Market Provisions, Chocolate Zen Bakery and Osborne Florist, the South Osborne Biz initiative gives Winnipeggers an opportunity to experience the restaurants and shops they’ve been meaning to check out all in one night.

“As a result of the tour, we hope folks will get to know our neighbourhood better and will be interested in future visits to our restaurants and shops,” said Stephanie Voyce, the administrator at South Osborne BIZ.

Upcoming tours take place on July 19 and 26 and August 2, 9, 16 and 23. Two different tours run concurrently from 5:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. with a maximum capacity of 20 people per tour.

The food tour costs $54 and tickets must be purchased in advance through www.eventbrite.com. When registering, attendees can select which tour appeals to their palate and desire to explore the area by foot.

South Osborne Biz will contact each registered individual about any dietary restrictions and preferences. Most of the participating businesses are wheelchair accessible and those with steps have portable ramps available.

South Osborne Biz can be contacted at 204-299 5744 or osbornesouthbiz@gmail.com
