Golden Petal Goods recently moved into a sunlit studio at ARTlington Studios, located at 618 Arlington St. Serena Komonko is happy to have joined the community of artisans in the beautifully renovated heritage building.
“The character of the building fits my vibe and I like being around other artists on the same path” she said at her studio launch party.
The party showcased Golden Petal’s consciously curated collections of little luxuries and (mostly) vintage goods for which Komonko is known. Pre-loved curios, objets d’art, rare brass figurines, gold-filled or plated jewelry as well as beaded pieces (inspired by those her great-grandmother used to make), plus vintage and upcycled clothing fill the shelves. Her love of brass figurines is evident, as she has amassed quite a collection.

Framed floral compositions are created by Komonko from flowers grown in mom Karen’s garden (or foraged). She presses them for at least four months before beginning the fiddly work of piecing together the intricate designs. Together with the dried flower bouquets she assembles, they are popular both online and at the markets she attends.
All these finds are photographed and described on goldenpetalgoods.com. New items are added often, while others are marked down. With some costing just $3 to $6, the site is definitely worth a look. If you want to browse in-person, there is an option to book a studio shopping session (at no charge) on the first page of the site. (Available time slots are on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.)
You never know where life will lead you.
“I’ve always liked little trinkets since my mom used to take me and my sister antiquing outside the city when I was younger,” Komonko said. She started selling her vintage wares using Instagram stories in 2019. Today, Golden Petal Goods is a local independent business with a focus on eco-friendly practices. You won’t find any plastic around the studio, as they use only recycled, reused and compostable materials. Of course, vintage and handmade are the ultimate in sustainable goods.
Follow Golden Petal Goods on Instagram, where open studio hours, events, stories and reels are posted.
They will be at the Wolseley NIGHTish Market on Aug. 3 and the Shelmerdine Farmers Market on Aug. 19.
