The Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce kicked off the fall event season with a ribbon-cutting that celebrated the grand opening of the Toba Centre for Children and Youth on Sept. 6. The Chamber of Commerce is delighted to welcome the centre as neighbours, as it occupies its new facility at Assiniboine Park.
The Chamber is proud to be associated with the praiseworthy effort of Toba Centre’s dedication to providing a complete experience for children and families in need. The newly renovated space will offer children and their families a place for renewal and restoration.
“This past May, the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce named Toba Centre with non-profit of the year in recognition of their role and positive impact on the welfare of minors and their families in Manitoba,” said Kristi Meek, president and executive director of Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber acknowledges the power of strengthening the community and is always accessible to lend support where necessary to organizations within the region.”

The centre is immensely appreciative of the efforts and contributions of all donors, community leaders and volunteers.
“This centre is a testament of the power of community collaboration and the shared belief that every child deserves a chance to thrive. We invite the community to continue to rally around children and families who have been hurt as our real work has just begun” said Christy Dzikowicz, Toba Centre’s executive director. “We are so grateful for the opportunity this new centre provided to change the story for those impacted by child abuse.”
The provision of a collaborative and child-friendly space for children who have been victims or witnesses to child abuse, as well as their families, establishes their right to safety and protection. The upgraded centre incorporates various purposeful resources to improve the centre’s encounter with the affected children. This includes a classroom for training, a healing garden, and medical practitioners to provide onsite support.
