Hey there, time traveller!

On Oct. 3, Manitobans elected a new provincial government, and it is my honour to be your representative in the Manitoba legislature. To the people of Riel, thank you for trusting me and our NDP team. I am incredibly grateful for your support. Being your MLA is a commitment I do not take lightly.

In the months leading up to and including the official campaign, I heard from so many of you in the community. I am grateful for the conversations on the doorstep, over the phone, and at events. Thank you to the thousands of neighbours who took time out of their busy days to talk with me and my volunteers about the issues that matter most to them.

We heard time and time again from seniors who weren’t getting the care they deserved from our hospitals, and health-care workers who were so burnt out they were ready to leave their jobs. We heard from families struggling to find available childcare, and that everyone was feeling the rising cost of living with wages that weren’t keeping up. The previous government did enormous damage and left many of our neighbours in Riel behind. I am proud to be a part of our new government that is ready to change that.

At the top of our agenda is repairing the relationships with our dedicated health-care workers, reducing waits and fixing our healthcare system so everyone can get the care they deserve. Our team has already gotten to work with new investments in staffing, expanding capacity for surgeries here in Manitoba and reducing excessive bureaucracy to reinvest those resources to the front lines.

Affordability is something that is top of mind for Manitobans, so we’ve also tabled our first piece of legislation to provide relief after the holidays. As of Jan. 1, the provincial gas tax will be suspended, saving you 14 cents per litre at the pump.

Thank you again for entrusting me with the privilege of being your MLA. It is a new day in Manitoba and as your representative, I want to hear from you. If you have any concerns or issues you’d like to share, please contact me at mike.moyes@yourmanitoba.ca or call 204-421-4666. You can also visit our constituency office at 628 St. Annes Rd. as we get set up to serve our community.

Have a safe and happy holiday season!
