It’s unbelievable that we are nearing the end of this year and are well into the holiday season. These past months have been exciting, and I look forward to what we will accomplish together in 2024.
It’s been great to attend so many wonderful holiday events in Transcona. It’s always great to kick-off the holiday season with the community. Attending the Breakfast with Santa at the Transcona East End Community Club is an annual favourite. It’s a great joy at this time of year to reconnect with friends, family, and neighbours. I also attended the lovely Jingle and Mingle event at the Transcona Museum. The museum does a fantastic job of showcasing Transcona’s history.
An amazing part of this season is school concerts and performances where educators, staff, and students come together to display the incredible talents of our kids! I was happy to attend Ecole Regent Park’s amazing school play on Dec. 12.

I love connecting with you folks at different community events, as it reminds me of my main commitment to represent the amazing community members of Transcona.
We’ve had an exciting first session as your NDP government. It is an honour to sit both as the MLA for Transcona and as the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning.
Our first bills took important strides in making Louis Riel the honorary first premier of Manitoba and establishing Orange Shirt Day as a statutory holiday. Together, these two bills represent significant steps towards resetting the relationship between the Manitoba government and Indigenous governments. I look forward to seeing more children and families able to participate in Orange Shirt Day events, it’s essential that we recognize our shared history to venture on a new path together.
Our government’s priority is to make life more affordable for Manitobans. We want everyone to have the ability to create a good life in Manitoba without worrying about how to make ends meet. Our Fuel Tax Amendment Act we passed this session will save families 14 cents a litre at the pumps.
I am also looking forward to helping children and families across Manitoba during these difficult times. It is an honour to collaborate with both families and educators to create a universal K-12 nutrition program.
I’d like to wish you all a safe and happy new year. I hope you are all able to enjoy time with your loved ones this holiday season.
