After you shared your feedback this summer, we are one step closer to a revitalized and refreshed local hub at the Victoria site of the Fort Garry Community Centre.
For those who may not be aware, this location, which was built around 1945, has been well-loved and used over the years but, like all infrastructure, it requires reinvestment to continue to be one of our beloved local spaces to connect and stay active.
We started with upgrades to the skate-change building. A new path from the parking lot, improved accessibility, flooring, windows and washrooms.

The Fort Garry Community Centre Victoria site master plan depicts what recreation and park amenities could look like in the future.
The City of Winnipeg, in partnership with the community, has created a Fort Garry Community Centre Victoria site master plan to share what recreation and park amenities could look like in the future.
To get your feedback on what features are important to you, the City of Winnipeg held engagement opportunities last June, including an in-person workshop and online survey for residents to learn more about the current challenges with the site and share your thoughts.
Thanks to your input, we finalized the master plan which includes: a redeveloped baseball field, summer basketball and pickleball courts on one of the hockey pens with a dog run on the other, a new play structure and splash pad where the old building sits, trees, paths and raised gardens. A full overview of the project can be found at engage.winnipeg.ca
I was proud to take the plan to the City Centre Community Committee on April 4, where it was approved in full, including the plan to demolish the existing main hall to make room for the new structures.
Following review by the executive policy committee and city council, I look forward to sharing the next steps and timeline with you for this project as they become available.
If you have other community centre improvement ideas for our ward, I want to hear from you. Please contact our office at 204-986-5236 to let me know how we can work together continue to make River Heights-Fort Garry the neighbourhood we all love to spend time in.
