On May 16, Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted Chamber Day which included its prestigious Business Excellence Awards. This event, designed to recognize West Winnipeg businesses for their commitment to excellence and their significant contributions to the economic growth of our region, showcased a lineup of deserving nominees, with winners claiming victory by a single point in a few categories.

And the awards went to:

Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Marco Soares, JasperVOCAL —Soares, the dynamic entrepreneur behind JasperVOCAL, earned this award for his visionary leadership and innovative contributions to communication support for government campaigns and non-profits. Marco’s commitment to offering premium quality products at affordable prices, coupled with his active participation in community events and support for local charitable causes, has garnered global recognition.

Non-Profit of the Year: St. James Assiniboia 55-plus Centre — The St. James Assiniboia 55+ Centre has been a beacon of support for retired locals, providing essential services, fostering meaningful connections, and building a sense of belonging within our community. Despite undergoing renovations, its commitment to serving others has remained unwavering, making a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals.

Community Builder of the Year: Sturgeon Creek 1 Retirement Residence — Sturgeon Creek 1, an All Seniors Care residence located near Grace Hospital has been instrumental in fostering a sense of community and camaraderie in West Winnipeg for seniors and their families. Through events like its All Seniors Care Seniors Olympics, it has brought joy and unity to our neighbourhood, spreading awareness and goodwill.

EcoLeadership Award: Urban Lumber — This award is new for 2024. Inaugural recipient Urban Lumber has demonstrated exceptional dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By salvaging Winnipeg trees destined for landfill and transforming them into eco-friendly wood products, Urban Lumber has made a significant impact in reducing carbon emissions and promoting responsible forestry practices.

Business of the Year: CentrePort Canada — The biggest award of the day was given to CentrePort Canada, which stands as a shining example of excellence and innovation in our community. As North America’s largest inland port and foreign trade zone, CentrePort Canada offers unparalleled opportunities for businesses to thrive and connect with major markets worldwide. Their strategic location and dedication to providing high-quality industrial land have made them an indispensable asset to our region’s economic growth. We are so proud of the work they are doing in their area but also their support of businesses across West Winnipeg.

As we celebrate the achievements of these exceptional businesses and individuals, we look forward to another year of growth and prosperity in West Winnipeg.
