It takes a village to raise a child; the families of Fort Garry have found their village in the Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition. It provides free parent-child programming from Monday to Saturday for young ones aged one to four years old. With locations at Parc La Salle School), Waverley Heights Community Centre, Richmond Kings Community Centre and Access Fort Garry, parents can join their children in various learning activities and gym time.
Socialization is so important at an early age. Places which provide safe spacse for our babies and toddlers to develop their social, language, and comprehension skills are needed in Manitoba. Fort Garry is lucky to have the Fort Garry/ St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition, an organization deeply invested in healthy families and child welfare. The coalition has been such a wonderful addition to our community over the years. Parents have the chance to connect with other families and build their own networks of like-minded caregivers. Together, they can share in the joys and challenges of parenting.
Last month, I had the immense privilege of recognizing the Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition with a member’s statement at the legislature. Ten representatives of the coalition were applauded by our team for their years of dedication, passion and support. The coalition showcases the value of child programming in Manitoba. Children need safe spaces to learn, play and grow in their communities. I am optimistic that our team’s commitment to true $10-a-day childcare will allow for more Manitoba children to experience the joy of play and the value of community.
This year marks the coalition’s 25 anniversary. Parents and kids have had access to these fantastic programs since 1999, increasing available parenting supports and improving our neighbourhood’s communal spirit. I want to thank the Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition for its unwavering dedication to the children of Fort Garry. I look forward to celebrating this remarkable milestone and the coalition’s future accomplishments.
