Earlier this month, I stood with our government team on the steps of the Manitoba Legislature to celebrate Pride together with you.

Looking out from those steps, I could see that the theme of this year’s Pride festival, Transcend Together, was all around us.

Together, we danced, sang, and marched our way through the streets of downtown Winnipeg.

Together, we honoured the unique differences between us.

And together, we celebrated Pride, as one people, with one shared future.

Part of this shared future are countless trans Manitobans who have shown resilience and strength in the face of persistent attacks.

I am humbled to share a government table with one of those trans Manitobans – Logan Oxenham, our NDP MLA for Kirkfield Park.

In his leadership, our province now has an official day for Trans Visibility, holding space and dignity for every trans and 2-Spirit person in Manitoba.

This is what Manitobans sent our government to the legislature to do – to transcend hatred and to work together for one Manitoba.

That is why, this month and every month, our government will join Manitobans to celebrate and stand with the LGBTQ2S+ community.

And while June is almost over, Pride Winnipeg has worked hard to offer programs and events that will continue on through the year, including right here in Fort Rouge. Hosted by the Gas Station Theatre this September, the Winnipeg Reel Pride International Film Festival is screening 2SLGBTQ+ films from across the world and will hold a film competition for local queer artists.

I want to thank the Manitobans who showed up to Pride – in communities across our province.

Each of you make me proud to serve as the Premier of Manitoba.

As the summer stretches forward, our team will be spending more time outside of the legislature and in our community. I encourage you to keep reaching out to us. Keep sharing your stories, your concerns and your ideas with our team.

This is how we can continue to make life better for our province – by working together.
