Parks and greenspaces – the pride of our ward

Parks and greenspaces are central to our community and I am excited about the investments I have been able to secure to keep them vibrant and accessible in our ward.

In the heat of a summer like the one we’re currently enjoying, I know how important it is to have an affordable place to cool off and meet up with friends and family.

The new spray pad at the Corydon Community Centre is now open and has been a great success with many families who have made it a daily destination with high temperatures and sunny days this year.

At the Linden Woods Community Centre, the playground addition to the spray pad area was completed just in time for peak play season for many in the neighbourhood.

As the City of Winnipeg strategically moves away from wading pools and toward spray pads, I know the loss of the Harrow and Cordova wading pools affects those who live nearby. However, there are redevelopment plans so that these loved spaces will continue to be enjoyed in new ways, including potential playground and recreational spaces.

Sustainably transforming our spaces to keep thoughtfully evolving our neighbourhood is an important part of keeping our ward safe and fun. Another site where this is happening is at the Victoria Community Centre. This fall, we’re moving forward with the removal of the derelict trailer on the site and preparing for the next phase, which is redeveloping the field for more recreational opportunities. We’re also making investments in other parks and school yards across the ward to benefit those who call our ward home and those throughout the city who recognize the beauty of our community.

From protecting the aak trees on Wellington Crescent and enhancing its medians with more flowerbeds and trees to showing Marshall Bay Park some additional love, I’m proud to advocate for our vital tree canopy.

Our shared spaces bind our neighbourhoods together as places to meet, relax and enjoy being outdoors. I know maintaining and growing them matters to you – and that means it matters to me.
