Hey there, time traveller!

Did you know that we have already reached 87 per centof our goal of hiring 1,000 net new health-care workers in Manitoba? One year into government, we have hired 873 health care workers, and we’re on track to get to 1,000 this year.

As your MLA, I’m happy to say that our NDP government is making progress. We are keeping our promises by providing convenient and accessible health care to families across Manitoba. We are committed to keep going, so we can start to focus on some of the most important priorities in health care. Every new health-care professional in our province takes us one step closer to repairing the damage done by the previous government. With staff on our side, we can make progress in shortening wait times and delivering the best quality care.

These net new workers are a result of our government’s investments in retaining, recruiting, and training more health-care workers, including adding new training seats, streamlining licensing for internationally educated health-care workers, and emphasizing community recruitment.

We’re also making health services available when you need it. We recently announced the extension of hours for two primary care clinics, one at the Winnipeg West Access Clinic and another at Concordia Hospital. These clinics will be open on evenings, weekends, and holidays so patients can access care when and where they need it. They will offer treatments from family doctors and nurses on concerns ranging from common ailments to ongoing management of chronic conditions.

The extended clinic hours are 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays, 1:30 to 11:30 p.m. on weekends, and special hours during the holidays. Some walk-in spots will be available every day, and patients are also welcome to register for same-day appointments online at myrightcare.ca

I’m pleased that my constituents can also benefit from this. Whether it’s through staffing or being a client, folks are getting added value.

I would also like to congratulate all graduates, especially those in Union Station, that have put in the effort to become health-care professionals and are ready to give back to those within my community and provide the care needed to ensure our health-care system maintains its balance. To every person who decided to pursue a career in health care or returned to the system, I say thank you!
