Happy holidays, Fort Rouge! During this festive season, our team is taking the time to reflect on the past year and look ahead at the year to come. It continues to be the greatest honour of my life to have the opportunity to make life better for the people of Manitoba.

As you prepare to gather with friends and family to celebrate the season, I know health care is still top of mind for many. There’s a long way to go to fix the damage done to health care in Manitoba. But when I see everything we’ve been able to accomplish over the past year, there are a lot of reasons to hope.

I’ve always said that fixing health care has to start with hiring more doctors and nurses. And we’ve made a lot of progress this year by hiring 870 net new health-care workers. That means more doctors, nurses, and health-care workers caring for you at the bedside. We’re also helping your parents and grandparents be able to play with their grandkids and live full lives in their senior years by adding 800 more hip and knee surgeries to our province.

We’re listening to and working with health-care providers, because we know the best ideas for our health care come from the front lines. To improve care for you, we’re expanding options for primary care. When your kid gets hurt playing hockey or you have the flu, the ER shouldn’t be your only option. With more family doctors and more clinics open on evenings and weekends, you can get care that works with your family’s schedule. We’re opening more minor illness and injury clinics across Winnipeg, so you can easily book an appointment and be seen the same day, without having to wait in an ER. One of these clinics will be open at the Misericordia Hospital, meaning families in Fort Rouge will have access to another clinic closer to home.

As we prepare to enter the new year, I’m feeling hopeful that health care is getting better in our province. And I want you to know that our team is going to keep our focus on fixing health care for Manitobans in Fort Rouge and in every part of our province.

If you see me around the community this holiday season, please stop and say hi. And as always, you can get in touch with my office by visiting 2-565 Osborne Street, calling us at 204-615-1922 or sending me an email at wab.kinew@yourmanitoba.ca

Once again, happy holidays to you and your loved ones, and my very best wishes for the new year.
