Peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs…Winnipeg and snow. There are some classic combinations that just go together.

And while there are so many fun ways to enjoy everything that the fluffy white stuff brings throughout the city – from tobogganing to cross-country skiing to snowshoeing and more – sometimes we just need to clear it off our roads to get where we need to go.

Luckily, it’s never been easier to find all the information you need about Winnipeg’s winter maintenance through the city’s snow operations map, at winnipeg.ca/snow

This new one-stop shop combines information about snow clearing plans, winter parking bans, and plowing status on streets, pathways, and sidewalks for the whole city.

It displays real-time information in an easy-to-use and interactive way that is also screen-reader-friendly.

To find the latest information for your neighbourhood, simply follow these steps:

• Go to winnipeg.ca/snow;

• Zoom in to any area of the city;

• Use the search bar to get details for a specific address;

• Filter to see targeted information on snow clearing, whether you’re a pedestrian, cyclist, or motorist;

• View current or upcoming parking bans at any location.

To have this key information on your phone whenever you need it, you can download the Know Your Zone app.

By searching for your address, the app will quickly identify your designated snow zone and provide the following information:

• snow-related parking bans in effect;

• residential snow clearing schedule;

• snow-clearing activities underway on a colour-coded map

You can also sign up for push notifications through the app to notify you when residential parking bas are in effect for addresses saved as favourites.

The app is free, just visit the Apple app store or Google Play store to download it to your mobile device.

Whether you’re planning your morning commute or looking for the quickest way to make it to your child’s hockey game, I hope these tools will be helpful, no matter where you’re headed over the next few months.

Don’t forget, the annual winter-route parking ban began on Friday, Dec. 6 and will be in place until further notice or if there’s a residential parking ban. This means no parking on designated streets daily between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., unless the city provides an update.
