On Feb. 7, the premier and I were honoured to announce that our government has hired 1,255 net-new health-care workers, surpassing our ambitious target of 1,000 new hires. Since April 2024, Manitoba’s health-care system has gained 138 physicians, 481 nurses, 386 health-care aides, and 176 allied health workers — an achievement all Manitobans can be proud of.

While challenges remain in fixing health care, we are already seeing the impact of progressive changes and frontline collaboration. These additional staff are making a difference; for instance, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority recorded a 45 per cent reduction in mandatory overtime for nurses between October 2023 and October 2024. Every new worker strengthens bedside care for individuals and families.

I sincerely thank every health-care worker contributing to this progress. Recovery takes time, but we are on the right path.

Great news for Union Station residents — the new Minor Injury and Illness Clinic at Misericordia Health Centre is now open, providing timely, flexible access to primary care. After the Progressive Conservative government closed Misericordia’s Urgent Care clinic, it’s encouraging to see care returning to West Broadway, Wolseley, and downtown Winnipeg. This new clinic offers families more options for non-emergency health concerns.

Staffed by a multidisciplinary team — including physicians, registered nurses, and primary care assistants — the clinic is equipped with diagnostic imaging and medical lab services, allowing many patients to receive treatment in a single visit.

The clinic operates on weekdays from 1 to 10 p.m. and on weekends and statutory holidays from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Our government is committed to expanding primary care access across Manitoba. Several extended-hours clinics have already opened in Winnipeg, and we look forward to further improvements in the health-care system.
