Hey there, time traveller!

A+ Computers & Services is dedicated to helping individuals while also supporting local businesses and organizations, and it is conveniently located in my neighbourhood, at 831 Cavalier Dr., nestled between stores such as Food Fare, Circle K, and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

My initial experience as a client was for assistance after experiencing some issues, first with my laptop, and then recently, my tower computer. I wanted a diagnostic review of my tower computer, recognizing it was older and may not warrant a repair. I was proved correct and decided not to invest any money in it, but I did want another computer. When I discovered the custom PC-building service, I decided to go this route, though unsure what it would entail.

I wanted to support A+ Computers & Services, as it is a Canadian company, so decided against visiting the larger computer stores. I had many questions, and our dialogue was easy. The IT folks made the technology simple and approachable. I became aware I needed to ensure I understood the IT language and detail of my existing computer when the discussion began, as this would affect my decisions.

I learned some things I want to share with others who may be considering this route:

• Know your hardware when you start a dialogue. For example, I didn’t know my speakers were part of my monitor. I assumed they were in my computer, which affect my decision to purchase a new monitor as, when I did, I realized I had no speakers. I was grateful for the assistance to resolve this problem.

• Identify what apps will be added to your computer, knowing you will be responsible for adding them if they’re not part of the basic setup. Review the basics of your computer, Windows and Microsoft. I wanted to understand what they entailed to avoid assumptions about what might be in the package. If this sounds too basic, realize assumptions can be made which may prove incorrect. Therefore, clarify what PC building means in detail. Review the list line by line with the staff. I didn’t do this, regrettably, so I had to backtrack to ensure I had the programs I wanted.

• Inquire if there will be IT support when the new computer arrives, should problems occur and what this entails. How long is this service available? What are appropriate and inappropriate questions in the process for this service? Are you comfortable with remote assistance? I learned that A+ Computers & Services provides structured IT support and tailored set-up services, ensuring clients have ongoing assistance when needed. Installation options are available for home setup, with full details included in the purchase statement.

In summary, know your level of computer knowledge and be honest if something is unclear. I recommend, if you go this route, that you ask lots of questions. They will all be answered. I was met with patience and respect for my questions. As a senior, my willingness to learn was supported. I was impressed by the incredibly talented staff who walked down the road with me. Their desire to meet my needs and listen above and beyond what I had anticipated.

So, if you see the company name A+ Computers & Services over the entrance, take the time meet the staff who make it happen and say hello to the President of the company, Jason Houghton. You won’t regret your decision and may even come back to understand more. I can assure you that I recognized their commitment to professional, client-first service immediately.

I am now the proud owner of a new Canadian computer I will fondly call Big A.
