At the end of March, the Assiniboia Chamber Travel Group embarked on an extraordinary journey across more than 1,200 kilometres of Greece’s mainland, indulging in its world-renowned cuisine and immersing ourselves in its storied past.
The journey began in Athens, where we enjoyed a culinary introduction to Greece with a delightful dinner. Each town we visited offered us unforgettable flavors, from hearty family recipes in Kalambaka to the delicate tastes of local olive oils and a visit to a honey farm in the countryside.
Our route led us to Delphi, once the religious heart of ancient Greece. Here, we walked among the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Doric Temple, and the ancient theatre. Listening to our guide, we imagined the awe of those who once consulted the Oracle of Delphi, seeking prophecies that would shape destinies.

The historical highlight for many was Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Exploring the sanctuary of Zeus and the Olympic Stadium, we were transported back to 776 B.C., when athletes from across Greece gathered here to compete and honour the gods. The well-preserved site brought to life the grandeur of these ancient games, and our visit to the museum deepened our appreciation for this iconic tradition.
In between these historic landmarks, we relished more of Greece’s culinary treasures. A Mediterranean cooking experience in Olympia allowed us to master traditional recipes, while in Nafplio, we savoured fresh seafood at lively seaside tavernas. A stop at an ouzo distillery added a spirited twist to our travels, introducing us to this signature Greek aperitif.
The monasteries of Metéora and the charming streets of Nafplio added another layer of wonder, showcasing Greece’s diverse landscapes and architectural beauty. Everywhere we went, we felt the warmth of Greek hospitality, with locals eager to share their culture and stories.
Greece captivated us with its rich history, stunning vistas, and unmatched cuisine. This trip was not merely a tour but a journey through the heart and soul of a land that continues to inspire and enchant.
