Hi neighbours! The last number of months I have been in legislative session daily at the Manitoba Legislature.
As mentioned previously, our goal is to always have a Team Kildonan-River East staff member in the office on weekdays. When this is not possible, we have a sign up on the door with contact information.
Our local KRE team want to help. We are here to serve you and your families. We want to hear your concerns, your issues, and whatever else is on your mind. I am your elected representative and your community advocate. Not a day goes by where I take this honour and privilege for granted.
When I first met you and your family at the doorstep and at community events, I committed to a more accessible constituency office here in our community. Just weeks after the October 2023 election, our local team ensured that we had a visible and accessible office for Kildonan-River East community members.
Your office on Henderson is a non-political government office. It is a top priority for me to represent all our Kildonan-River East community members regardless of how they vote. During the recent federal election, some neighbours contacted us for information about federal candidates. In keeping with our non-political mandate, we referred all inquiries to Elections Canada.
From March 5 to June 2, while the Legislature is in session, we have more limited time to reconnect with the community. Normally, our local team would host coffee gatherings in apartment buildings and community hubs to listen to residents. To avoid any confusion during the federal election, we temporarily scaled back that outreach.
Even during session, I do my best to attend as many local Kildonan-River East community events as possible on evenings and weekends. For example, on March 20, the day our government announced our second budget at the Legislature, I attended the second annual community smudge event at Maple Leaf School co-hosted by Emerson School. I am so grateful to have been invited and to attend again this year. It was a powerful reminder of reconciliation in action, and I am grateful to the educators fostering these important experiences for our Kildonan-River East students.
If you or your family need support, please don’t hesitate to stop by your office or reach out at 431-478-1667. We are here, and we are always ready to help.
