Riel

It has been a wonderful summer here in Riel! Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of knocking on doors, meeting so many wonderful neighbours. It’s been great to hear firsthand how you’re doing, and how I can best represent you as your MLA.

Summer really brings our community to life, and it’s been fantastic to be part of some great local events. I was recently at the St. Vital Agricultural Society’s annual fair, where I helped serve up pancakes with the Winnipeg South Lions and celebrated the harvest grown, and wares made by Manitobans.

One of the highlights of summer for me is always touring different cultural pavilions at Folklorama. We know that our diversity makes our province stronger and I was so impressed with all of the performances, the food, and the overall positive energy at each pavilion. Thank you to all of the volunteers and the Folklorama team that works to make this celebration of culture possible.

July saw a big turnout for our first Community BBQ at St. Vital Centennial Arena, with free hot dogs and activities that got everyone smiling and connecting. I’m excited to keep the momentum going with another barbecue on Aug. 25 at Greendell Community Centre. I’m so pleased that I can help bring community spirit to every corner of Riel.

While the city buzzed with events, I also made sure to step outside the Perimeter and explore Manitoba’s natural beauty. From Folk Fest at Birds Hill Provincial Park to scenic walks through Spruce Woods Provincial Park, it has been fantastic to get to enjoy some relaxation and recreation at these provincial treasures.

My travels even took me further afield, joining the Gimli Icelandic Festival Parade to celebrate our proud Icelandic heritage, and cheering on local businesses at the lively Selkirk Biz Parade. It’s been a summer of connection, both here in Riel and across Manitoba.

As we prepare for the school year and the fall session at the legislature, I’m reminded of my teaching days and the joy of new beginnings. This summer, though, I’m mostly grateful for the sense of community we’ve shared, the smiles, the stories, and the simple joys of being together.

I hope to see you all at the Greendell BBQ on Aug. 25 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Come out, say hello, and let’s keep building the great community we call home.

Please reach out to the Riel Constituency Office if I can be of service by calling 204-421-4666 or emailing mike.moyes@yourmanitoba.ca
