Point Douglas

As an MLA in Manitoba, summer is always a special time for me. For the summer months, the Legislative Assembly takes a break from its regular sessions, allowing me and my colleagues to spend time in our constituencies, to connect with you, the people we work for, and to organize outreach events in our communities.

Over the last few months, it has been a great pleasure to hear from the people of Point Douglas about their concerns, their priorities, and their wishes for the future. As your MLA, it is my job to listen to you, and to take what I hear back to my work and let my efforts be guided by it. If you live in Point Douglas, chances are that you have seen me or my team on your doorstep, asking you about any concerns or issues you see in your communities — for several weeks now, we have enjoyed being out every day on the streets of Point Douglas, knocking on doors and hearing from you. Receiving feedback and knowing what is of concern to those I represent is among the most important aspects of my work.

I also greatly enjoyed hearing from our elders in several 55+ residences in Point Douglas during the coffee houses and barbecues organized by my office. It was again proven to me that the best conversations are usually held over a cup of coffee or tea and some food — thank you to all the residences and staff for welcoming us into your place and for giving us the time to listen and connect with some of our senior citizens. A big thank you also to all our elders who joined to meet me and my team, and who shared what is of importance to them.

It is the opportunity to engage with so many different people and to hear from them that has led me into politics in the first place, making the summer months during which I have the opportunity to do exactly that very special and meaningful for me. Point Douglas is a wonderful, diverse, and thriving community that I am honoured to represent in our province. I thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to share their concerns and priorities, and am looking forward to continue working towards positive change with session resuming in the fall.
