Transcona

It has been a great summer here in Transcona! Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of knocking on doors and meeting so many wonderful neighbours. Hearing your stories, concerns, and your ideas for our community is one of the best parts of this work and it helps guide me in representing you as your MLA.

Beyond door-to-door visits, I had the great pleasure of meeting so many folks from Transcona at some fun events and festivals held right here in our backyard. From enjoying the Hi Neighbour Festival to visiting the Transcona Biz Market Gardens on three occasions, I had the chance to connect with residents, support excellent local vendors, and share in the spirit of our community.

I was also able to attend the Transcona Council for Seniors BBQ, the Park Manor BBQ and the Staff Appreciation, and the L’Arche Picnic. Each was a fantastic community event that brought people together for some great food and great conversations.

This summer also brought one of my favourite Winnipeg traditions: Folklorama. I was delighted to visit many different pavilions throughout our city. Thank you to those constituents who let me know where they were volunteering. I was able to attend the British Isles, Celtic Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, Irish, Punjabi, Italian and Ukraine Kyiv pavilions over the course of the festival. Folklorama is such a special opportunity to celebrate the many cultures that enrich our city, and I am grateful to all who welcomed me so warmly.

As summer draws to a close, folks are looking towards a return to school for students and staff. A new school year brings a mix of emotions. Some may feel nervous about attending a new school, making new friends or having a new teacher. Others are excited about reconnecting with friends they haven’t seen over the summer, new classes and new adventures to be had during the school year. Whatever feelings you’re experiencing, I wish all staff, students, and families an incredible 2025/2026 school year!

As we prepare for the school year and the fall session at the legislature, I’m reminded of my teaching days and the joy that comes with new beginnings. This summer, though, I am grateful for the sense of community we’ve shared, the smiles, the conversations, and the simple joys of being together.

If you ever have questions, concerns, or ideas to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Transcona constituency office at 204-219-1189 or by email at Shannon.corbett@yourmanitoba.ca
