A season of connection and celebration

As the summer comes to an end, and we look ahead to the fall — with kids returning to school, reestablishing routines and bedtimes — I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the incredible moments I’ve shared with the community this season. From graduations to barbecues, and everything in between, it has truly been a summer of connection and togetherness.
I kicked off June by attending many graduations for the students in Assiniboia. It was heartwarming to see the bright faces of our young people stepping into the next chapter of their lives. Congratulations to all the graduates — your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring!
In July, I had the pleasure of hosting community barbecues at Muriel-Sage Park and at Heritage Victoria Community Centre. These events gave me the chance to meet many of the children and families who make up the heart of Assiniboia. It was great to see kids playing, families enjoying themselves, and neighbours connecting over food and conversation.

Another highlight in July, was celebrating Grants Old Mill’s 50th anniversary, where I had the chance to reconnect with many neighbours, while celebrating a landmark in our community. It’s wonderful to be part of such a vibrant area, and the history of the mill reminds me of the strength and resilience of those who built it.
Even though there was a bit of rain, I really enjoyed hosting a couple of August barbecues at Lakewood Field and Hamilton House. It was wonderful to connect with so many folks who came out despite the weather. I’m always grateful for these opportunities to listen, learn, and share some time together.
I also had a chance to visit Heritage Lodge and Oakview Personal Care Homes for ice cream parties, spending time with our seniors is always such a rewarding experience for me. Their stories and wisdom are invaluable, and it’s moments like those that remind me why our community and our people matter so much.
And of course, I couldn’t miss the seventh Annual Joe Aiello Charity Bocce Ball Tournament hosted by the Grace Hospital Foundation. I had so much fun supporting a great cause that does vital work in our community, while playing a couple rounds of Bocce!
Throughout the summer, my team and I also went door-to-door, hearing directly from you — listening to concerns and ideas, and answering questions to help make Assiniboia an even better place.
Now that summer is coming to an end, and we turn the page to fall – I want to thank each and every one of you who took part in these events. It’s your spirit, your energy, and your commitment to building a stronger, more connected community that makes all the difference.
