Building connections in St. James

St. James

With the legislature out of session, summer is a great opportunity to spend time connecting with the communities we serve as MLAs. Over the past few months, I’ve had many valuable conversations with folks in St. James about the issues that matter most.

Over hot dogs and cold drinks at Leicester Square and Hillsboro House, I had a chance to hear from our community about where they’re seeing the impact of our work in government. One of the things I’m most excited to talk about is the new ways to see a doctor more quickly in west Winnipeg.

Both the Primary Care Clinic at the Grace Hospital and the Misericordia Minor Injury and Illness clinic now have online bookings and walk-in appointments on evenings, weekends and holidays. Often, they’re able to book you in for an appointment the same day.

I’ve made use of the extended hours clinic with my family, and I encourage you to do the same for minor injuries or illnesses. Being able to connect with a doctor quickly without going to the emergency room is not only more convenient, but it also reduces the load in emergency departments across Winnipeg. The folks I’ve talked to who have used them had great experiences, and that’s how health care in Manitoba should be.

Our team was out almost every day knocking on doors this summer to hear from you, and we had so many great conversations about where Manitoba is headed.

What I hear on the doorsteps and in my constituency office guides the work we do in government, and across thousands of conversations my team and I had, your priorities were clear: we need to continue rebuilding our health care system, we need to make life more affordable for everyday Manitobans, and we need to keep making our communities a safe place to live, work and play.

As we head back into the fall legislative session, I’m excited to keep working hard, informed by what I’ve heard from our friends and neighbors in St. James. Our team is going to keep standing up for Canadians against tariffs and keep investing to help deliver change in our health care system.
