Roblin

It’s been an action-packed fall in Charleswood and Headingley. As an MLA, the best part of my job is getting out in the community and supporting the many organizations that make the Roblin constituency such a great place to live.

This year’s inaugural Roblin Park Fall Festival was a highlight. My family and I joined the five-kilometre fun run, and the movie night under the stars and we were thrilled to see trivia night sell out – all in support of new toboggan slides. The board and volunteers did a fantastic job. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to come together for fun and a great cause.

In Headingley, we celebrated the grand opening of the new fitness dentre at the Headingley Community Centre – a welcome addition for residents wanting to stay active close to home. It’s great to see continued investment in spaces that promote health and well-being.

At the Westgrove Family Resource Centre, I dropped off school supply donations and volunteered at their food bank. Thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers who keep this vital service running with care and compassion.

I was honoured to bring greetings to the Association of Senior Support Coordinators conference in Headingley. Seniors resource coordinators across Manitoba connect older Manitobans with services that help them thrive, and I appreciated the chance to thank them in person for their work.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, my family and I visited FortWhyte Alive, which for the first time, hosted Indigenous-led programming focused on learning, reflection, and reconciliation. Knowledge keeper Jason Parenteau led many of the activities and generously shared Indigenous culture and history throughout the day.

If you’ve seen me out door-knocking, hello again. I’ve enjoyed connecting with neighbours, hearing your concerns, and sharing updates on our work at the Legislature.

Looking ahead, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, our community will gather to pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

• Charleswood Legion Branch No. 100 will hold its service at 10:25 a.m. in the gymnasium at Oak Park High School (820 Charleswood Rd);

• The Headingley Historical Society will host a service at 10:50 a.m. at the Headingley Community Centre (5353 Portage Ave).

As always, you can reach me at 204-504-0594 or info@kathleen-cook.ca. I’m happy to hear from you.
