A season for building trust and community

As we head into the holiday season and look toward a new year, I want to thank everyone across Kildonan-River East for your engagement, support, and kindness.
Our fall legislative session, which is currently underway, has been busy and every day I show up in the legislature as your advocate for priorities that matter here — supports for seniors, strong schools, and affordability. Between question periods, committees, and the many emails and phone calls that come through our office, my focus is making sure your voices are heard.
When I am not here in the legislature, I am in the community. Over the past year, I have been honoured to attend local events, celebrations, and fundraisers. Whether I’m at a church tea, a school open house, or a cultural gathering, the strength and compassion of Kildonan-River East are on full display.

Representing our community is about advocacy. I did not come here to make friends with everyone. I ran to advocate fiercely for you and your family. Every MLA has a responsibility to show up, to face tough questions, and to listen, even when answers are not easy.
We must also speak out against political violence and intimidation. Recent incidents at the constituency offices of cabinet ministers Nahanni Fontaine and Bernadette Smith are unacceptable. Public service should never come with fear for one’s safety or that of family and staff. We all have a role in rejecting hate and the divisive politics creeping north from the United States.
Since being elected, my goal has been to rebuild trust and accessibility. Many neighbours told me during the campaign that they felt disconnected from their MLA’s office. That is why we work to be available, responsive, and rooted here in the community. Our office is fully accessible, located on Henderson Highway by a bus stop, and open to everyone, because every neighbour deserves to be heard.
To keep going above and beyond, we ask that interactions with our team remain respectful. Staff safety matters. The office is so important, as some neighbours do not have a cell phone, the internet, or a vehicle. Keeping the office open is a top priority, and so is keeping our local staff team safe.
I hope you will join me for our third annual MLA Schott Christmas Party and Office Open House on Saturday, Nov. 22. Your personal invite is in the mail. It’s a chance to connect and celebrate the spirit of togetherness. Please call 431-478-1667 for more information or anything you or your family needs assistance with.
