Sage Creek resident David Borowski’s passion has always been golf.

His late father, Frank, showed him the game and Borowski refers to his childhood when summarizing his love for teaching the game as a club professional.

“Whether it was in the heat of 40 degrees in Arizona as a 10-year-old boy, to tournaments and now in my adulthood, teaching golf serves the changing needs of a diverse clientele,” said Borowski, the coach at Invictus Golf, an indoor golf centre located at 1585 Kenaston Blvd.

Golf is more than a game of swings and scores, Borowski said — it’s a journey shaped by consistency, confidence, and concentration. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, when golf was one of the few sporting activities that could still be pursued, it has taken off as one of the fastest growing sports for all age groups.

Borowski’s background is extensive. He’s a proud graduate (with honours) of the Golf Academy of Arizona, is a PGA Class A professional and has worked at St. Boniface Golf Club, Golf Town, the Players Course, Kingswood Golf and Country Club, Nike Golf Canada, Golf Manitoba and Southside Golf Course. Coming off the outdoor season at Southside, his focus this winter is as the coach at Invictus Golf on Kenaston Blvd.

While there are several indoor golf centres in Winnipeg, what makes Invictus different is that it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Accommodating the late-night crowd, it serves those eager to practise some shots on its simulators and offers an extensive menu.

Featuring comfy, creative decor right out of Better Homes & Gardens magazine, the atmosphere is relaxed, even soothing. The space is generous, housing a bar and lounge area, as well as six simulators (four open-area and two private). In January, it will be a licensed facility.

Lesson options are flexible, Borowski said. One-on-one lessons are offered, as well as for foursomes. Basics – such as grip, swing mechanics and putting — are designed with a routine in mind.

A 60-minute coaching session includes a 30-minute lesson as well as V1 video swing analysis and , followed by 30 minutes of independent practice on a Golfzon TwoVision simulator. You can choose a virtual caddie, or touchscreen monitors allow you to see and analyze your shots.

Fees range from $80 per lesson to packages in groups of three, five 10 and 20.

Did I mention there is a golf pro shop abundantly stocked with an assortment of Taylor Made Invictus merchandise? Feel free to form your own tournament, with up to four participants or you can join the Invictus Winter League and win prizes from their sponsors.
