Seine River

As the holiday season approaches, there is so much to be grateful for here in Seine River. Festive events are well underway, and holiday cheer is spreading throughout our community as we celebrate and reflect on the year behind us.

One of the highlights of this year has been the passing of my private member bill, Bill 208, legislation that is particularly meaningful to me as a small business owner. I know first-hand how hard small businesses work to deliver exceptional products and services, and I wanted to ensure their contributions are formally recognized. With Bill 208 now passed, every May will officially be Small Business Month in Manitoba.

This designation is more than symbolic; it’s an opportunity to celebrate the vital role small businesses play in job creation, community building, and local economic growth. Small businesses make up 95 per cent of Manitoba’s business sector, and their impact is felt in every corner of our province. By highlighting their contributions, we encourage Manitobans to shop locally, support entrepreneurship, and acknowledge the resilience and hard work that small business owners demonstrate every day.

When May arrives, I encourage all Seine River residents to join in uplifting the small businesses that make our community vibrant. Here in River Park South, near my new office, I see local entrepreneurs working tirelessly to serve their neighbours, and I’m thrilled that they will now receive the recognition they deserve. Whether it’s visiting a local shop, dining at a neighbourhood restaurant, or sharing positive stories online, every effort helps strengthen our economy and community spirit.
