A season of gratitude and community pride

The Roblin constituency has had a busy and meaningful few weeks, with residents and community groups stepping up in ways that deserve recognition.
At the legislature, I had the privilege of recognizing several outstanding constituents and causes through private members’ statements delivered on the floor of the legislature. Mark and Jennifer Joseph and Destiny and Marcello Munoz were honoured for their tireless work advancing Prader–Willi syndrome research and for the support they provide to families affected by the condition.
I also had the chance to acknowledge the work of Jackie Maxted, Cindy Sanchez, and Christa Slatnik, who are dedicated to improving ovarian cancer outcomes for women everywhere. Their unwavering commitment through initiatives like the Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope is raising awareness, funding research, and inspiring hope.

The work of the Munoz and Joseph families in advancing the cause of research into Prader-Willi syndrome was recognized by Roblin MLA Kathleen Cook in a private members’ statement in the Manitoba legislature.
Here at home, residents came together for meaningful Remembrance Day services held by the Charleswood Legion at École secondaire Oak Park High School and the Headingley Historical Society at Headingley Community Centre. Veterans, families, and neighbours gathered to honour those who have served and those who continue to serve, creating a powerful moment of reflection and gratitude shared across generations. I am grateful to live in a community where Remembrance Day services are always so well attended.
Early December brought the joyful kickoff to the holiday season and two of my favorite community gatherings – Headingley’s annual Breakfast with Santa and the Charleswood Community Association’s Santa Breakfast, both of which welcomed families from across the constituency and brought people together to enjoy good food and festive spirit in support of great causes. Heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who bring these events to life each year and the people and businesses whose financial support makes these events possible.
It’s also a time of year when our community comes together to help those in need of a little extra support. Many Manitobans are feeling the pinch this year, but if you can help, please consider reaching out to a local organization such as Charleswood Cheer (which organizes hampers for local Charleswood families), the Christmas Cheer Board, or Harvest Manitoba, all of which are seeing more families in need this year.
Please continue to reach out to my constituency office with your concerns at 204-504-0594 or info@kathleen-cook.ca. We are here to serve you.
Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! However you celebrate, I hope you enjoy a peaceful holiday season with loved ones, and a very happy new year.
