Celebrating I Love to Read Month

The Maples

February was I Love to Read Month, and it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading with young learners across our community here in The Maples.

I had the pleasure of visiting Maples Day Care, James Nesbitt Community School, and Arthur E. Wright School. At each visit, I was warmly welcomed by students, educators, and staff who work every day to create supportive and engaging learning environments for our young Manitobans.

It was inspiring to see classrooms filled with energy, thoughtful questions, and genuine excitement for stories. Students eagerly shared their favourite books, spoke about characters they admire, and showed how reading helps them explore new ideas and perspectives.

Their enthusiasm was contagious.

It was clear that reading is not only helping our students build important skills but also encouraging creativity and confidence.

Supporting literacy from an early age helps set young Manitobans on a path toward success. Reading strengthens communication skills, fosters imagination, and helps students better understand the world around them. It builds confidence and supports strong foundations for lifelong learning.

I also want to recognize the dedicated educators, staff, and caregivers who make these experiences possible every day. Your commitment to nurturing a love of learning helps ensure that every young learner has the opportunity to grow and succeed.

By creating welcoming spaces where students feel encouraged to participate and explore, you are helping shape a strong future for our community. Families also play an essential role by making reading part of everyday life at home and reinforcing the value of learning beyond the classroom.

Investing in literacy is an investment in the future of our province. When we support young readers, we support stronger schools, stronger communities, and a stronger Manitoba. Encouraging a love of reading is a simple but meaningful way to help children build the skills they need to thrive.
