Looking ahead to summer in Transcona

As another school year comes to a close, students, educators and families across Transcona are looking ahead to a well-deserved summer break.
This time of year always feels special to me. As a former educator and vice-principal, I know how much hard work, care, and dedication goes into every school year.
That’s why supporting education continues to be one of our NDP government’s top priorities. In Budget 2026, we announced an additional $80 million in funding for Manitoba schools, increasing funding above the rate of inflation for the third year in a row. These investments will help support classrooms, technical vocational education, school operations, and our Universal School Nutrition Program that help students succeed every day.
I’m also proud that our government continues to invest in childcare and early learning. This year, Manitoba is opening 21 new childcare centres and adding more than 2,300 new childcare spaces to help support families across the province. We are also continuing to support early childhood educators through increased wages and investments in growing the workforce. Early learning programs play such an important role in helping children build confidence, curiosity, and a strong start for the future.
As we move into summer, there is also so much happening right here in Transcona that brings our community together.
I know many families are looking forward to spending sunny days at the Transcona Aquatic Park, one of the best places to cool off and enjoy time together during the warmer months.
I’m also excited to attend the Transcona BIZ Market this summer. These markets are always a wonderful way to support local vendors and connect with community organizations that make Transcona such a welcoming and vibrant place to live.
Another summer favourite is Movies in the Square at Transcona Centennial Square. These movie nights are such a fun opportunity for families, friends, and neighbours to gather together, and spend an evening outdoors with our community.
On June 13, families can also take part in the Bike Safety Rodeo at East End Community Club, hosted by the Transcona Optimist Club in partnership with MPI. This free event is a fun way for young riders to learn important bike safety skills.
I also want to recognize the incredible work being done through Variety Manitoba’s Bike Camp this June and July. This program gives children with disabilities the opportunity to build independence and confidence while learning to ride a two-wheel bike alongside their peers.
