McPhillips

As summer gets underway, I’m excited for all the great community events taking place across the McPhillips constituency.

I was honoured to attend Filipino Heritage Month events, including the Philippine Independence Ball celebrating Filipino heritage with music, dance, and cuisine, and the Noli et Fili Concert at PCCM, where powerful opera/zarzuela performances highlighted the richness of Filipino culture.

I was pleased to attend the grand opening of Adelina’s No Frills on McPhillips Street. With years of experience, Adelina is committed to serving the community. This new No Frills provides McPhillips residents with a convenient option for fresh produce, quality meats, and bakery items close to home.

Congratulations on this exciting milestone, and welcome to the McPhillips community, Adelina!

As June comes to a close, so does the 2026 grad season. I was proud to recognize and celebrate deserving students by presenting scholarship awards to support their continued education.

It was an honour to celebrate outstanding graduates and young leaders at Garden City Collegiate, Seven Oaks MET School, MITT, and at École Lansdowne.

Congratulations to all graduates and award recipients as you begin this exciting new chapter.

I was pleased to join Minister Schmidt for a tour of École Mino Pimatisiwin School, a new K–8 dual-track English and French Immersion school opening in September 2026 with kindergarten to Grade 6, and expanding to Grade 8 by 2028.

The school will also include a 74-space childcare centre and before- and after-school programming to support local families.

This is an exciting investment in our growing community, and I look forward to seeing students thrive in this new school.

I had the honour of presenting Members’ Statements recognizing two outstanding McPhillips constituents for their lasting contributions to our community and beyond.

Dr. Robert Schurko was an internationally recognized leader in magnetic resonance, whose research advanced scientific understanding in areas ranging from pharmaceuticals to advanced materials.

I also recognized community leader David Ingram for his 36-year career in education, including seven-and-a-half years as principal of West St. Paul School, where he inspired countless students, families, and colleagues.

It was a privilege to recognize both Dr. Schurko and David Ingram for their exceptional achievements and their lasting contributions to our community.

I was pleased to attend the 1010 Sinclair AGM, an outstanding organization supporting individuals living with physical disabilities and additional mental health, addiction, or cognitive challenges. I brought greetings on behalf of the province and connected with residents and staff while learning more about their work in promoting independent living.

As always, we’ll be out in the community this summer, knocking on doors and connecting with the incredible people of McPhillips. I look forward to hearing your concerns, answering your questions, listening to your ideas, and meeting you on your doorstep!
