St. Boniface

As this article is my submission for the summer of 2026, I would first like to congratulate all students across the city on completing the school year. I especially congratulate the high school graduates who are now moving on to other exciting things in their lives ahead.

Since school is out, I wanted to use this space to promote the libraries in St. Boniface ward which are available for families to visit over the summer.

The Windsor Park Library (1195 Archibald St.) is open under its summer hour schedule of Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The St. Boniface Library (131 Provencher Blvd.) operates under the same schedule as Windsor Park from Sunday-Friday, with the addition of being open Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.

A library card gives you access to approximately 1.4 million items that the library has available to sign out at branches across the city, including books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays, magazines, graphic novels, and even video games and musical instruments. It also gives you access to an extensive digital library of ebooks, databases, TV shows and movies, and more, which are accessible online from home 24 hours a day.

Libraries also have lots of space to sit down and browse the internet, either through the public computers available or through wifi access on your own personal laptop or device.

Under periods of extreme weather, libraries can be used as places to seek relief from the heat or the cold during operating hours.

This summer, you can try the Winnipeg Public Library’s “Summer Reading Challenge” which is a bingo-style game in which you complete enough of the challenges to fill an entire line on the page provided. Once you complete enough of the challenges you can enter a draw to win a prize, and the deadline to enter is Aug. 21. You can pick up a copy at any library branch.

If you’re looking for a summer reading guide for kids, the WPL is participating in the TD Summer Reading Club. The TD Summer Reading Club is a national initiative developed by the Toronto Public Library in partnership with Library and Archives Canada. As the WPL describes it, it is “Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way.” Visit guides.wpl.winnipeg.ca/tdsummerreadingclub for more information.
