Since the Charleswood Medical Clinic opened its doors last April, the doctors and staff having been fine tuning the services it offers.
With 10 doctors working out of the clinic — some serving as family practitioners and others handling walk-in patients — Charleswood Medical Clinic is becoming a multi-disciplinary facility which will include specialists in a number of disciplines.
Dr. Andy Dandekar, along with partners Dr. Sacha Rehsia and Darren Murphy of Northway Pharmacy invested in the redevelopment of the building with the goal that a combined facility would become a one-stop shop to meet the medical needs of the community.
Located at 3360 Roblin Blvd., the clinic is on the second floor of the newly renovated building and features a large reception area with plenty of natural light and comfortable furniture to accommodate patients.
The 8,500 square-foot clinic has 26 exam rooms, a nursing station, and top-notch equipment that includes an EKG and spirometry (screening test for lung function testing). Patients also have access to laboratory and X-rays, a pharmacy downstairs and physiotherapy is available in the same building.
What is unique about this walk-in and family practice clinic is that patients can book their appointments online, whether they want to book an appointment with one of the family doctors or as a walk-in patient, Dandekar points out.
“Patients have access to the clinic’s appointment schedule, so they can go online and book an appointment. They can even look online for a walk-in appointment. Then they come knowing they won’t have to wait for hours to see a doctor.”
Currently, the clinic is open six days a week — from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
“We hope to extend to seven days a week but we need to recruit a few more doctors, which we are working on now,” Dandekar says.
“Reception to the Charleswood Medical Clinic has been great,” Dandekar says, adding that the community can look forward to the addition of specialists in areas such as sports medicine.
“We want Charleswood to know we are here and we are accepting new patients.”
The first-floor Northway Pharmacy will soon double in size and offer dietary consultation and education in addition to pharmaceutical services.
Expansion of the pharmacy will begin in October and is expected to be completed before the New Year, Murphy said.
