Hey there, time traveller!

Welcome to the Free Press Community Review.
As I wrote last month, the six community weeklies published by Canstar Community News , a division of FP Canadian Newspapers, have been consolidated into two new papers, both called the Free Press Community Review.
The East and West editions of these papers make their print debuts on Jan. 5 at your doorsteps or in your mailboxes, and all our content can be viewed online at www.canstarnews.com
Just like their predecessors, the Free Press Community Review, both East and West, will be full of local news, sports and feature articles written by our staff reporters, as well as columns from the community correspondents and local politicians who write about the issues that matter to their neighbourhoods and constituencies.
The coverage areas of the two new publications are defined by a line that runs roughly parallel to the path of the Red River.
The East edition covers the communities of East Kildonan, East St. Paul, Elmwood, Garden City, Island Lakes, Jefferson, Luxton, River East, Riverbend, Seven Oaks, St. Johns, St. Boniface, St. Vital, River Park South, Royalwood, Sage Creek, Southdale, Transcona, West Kildonan, West St. Paul and Windsor Park.
The West edition covers Assiniboia, Bridgwater, Brooklands, Charleswood, Fort Garry, Fort Richmond, Fort Rouge, Linden Woods, the Maples, the North End, Richmond West, River Heights, St. James, St. Norbert, Tuxedo, Tyndall Park, West Alexander, the West End, Wolseley, Weston, Waverley West and Whyte Ridge. It will also reach beyond the Perimeter Highway into the rural municipalities of Cartier, Headingley, Macdonald and St. François-Xavier and to the communities of Oak Bluff and Portage la Prairie.
Between them, the Free Press Community Review’s two editions will reach over 230,000 households each week.
While the old names of your community newspapers may be gone, they will not be forgotten. Our heritage titles will be acknowledged each week in our editorial mastheads.
At the same time, we are pleased to incorporate the Free Press name into the titles of our new publications. The Manitoba Free Press was established in 1872, with its first issue published on Nov. 30 of that year.
As we approach the 150th birthday of the Winnipeg Free Press, we at Canstar Community News are proud to do our part to fulfill this motto:
“A strong Manitoba needs a strong Free Press.”
We hope you will agree.
