ST. VITAL
Green-thumbed Winnipeggers are once again invited to enjoy the floral finesse of florist Jim Fuller.
The St. Vital Agricultural Society will hold its A Gardener’s Evening event on Wed., May 11 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Road United Church, located at 613 St. Mary’s Rd.
The centrepiece of the fundraiser will be a flower arranging demonstration by Fuller, the longtime owner of Top Hat Florist and all-round flower-related local legend.
“We’re thrilled to have him back,” said Karen Fontaine, a longtime SVAS member who is in her first year as society president.
“He brings his team members with him and, while some of the preparation is done beforehand, the arranging is done on the spot. It’s a unique event for us, and I don’t think we’d be able to do it without him. It’s a really important fundraiser for us, and Jim’s work is awesome,” Fontaine said.
“He makes beautiful arrangements, and he shares tips and tricks and lots of good information. And, you might also win a prize,” she said, noting the event also includes draws for arrangements, a rainbow auction, and a perennial plant sale.
Fontaine said the society is thrilled to be back holding in-person events; this will be its first since its annual display and fair in August 2019.
“Being back means our spirits have lifted like you wouldn’t believe. It’s a real breath of fresh air to be back,” she said.
Admission to the event will be $3, which will include coffee/tea and cookies. Pre-registration is not required.
Visitors don’t need to be society members to attend, although memberships will be available for purchase on the night.
Visit the society on Facebook or Instagram, or email contactus@svas.ca or call Fontaine at 204-254-0443 for more information.
