With the 2022 City of Winnipeg municipal and school boards election scheduled for Wed., Oct. 26, the race for mayor is heating up, and a number of candidates for council have registered since June 30.

At press time, Idris Ademuyiwa Adelakun, Rana Bokhari, Christopher Clacio, Scott Gillingham, Kevin Klein, Shaun Loney, Robert-Falcon Ouellette, Jennifer Motkaluk, Glen Murray, Jessica Peebles, Rick Shone, Desmond Thomas, and Don Woodstock were all registered as candidates for mayor.

Incumbent city councillors Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), Markus Chambers (St. Norbert-Seine River), Jason Schreyer (Elmwood-East Kildonan), and Brian Mayes (St. Vital) had registered and were running unopposed at press time. Meanwhile, incumbent councillor Matt Allard was registered to run in St. Boniface alongside challenger Nicholas Douklias, while incumbent Shawn Nason and challenger Steve Lipischak are running in Transcona.

The deadline for registration is Tues., Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m. A list of requirements can be found in the City’s campaign expenses and contributions guide. Candidates must register prior to soliciting or collecting any campaign funding, expending any funds on their campaign (such as advertising), or borrowing funds.

The list of candidates will be published on the election website and updated as registrations are received.

In East St. Paul, mayor Shelley Hart announced earlier this year she would not seek re-election. Candidates for mayor and council also have until Tues., Sept. 20 to register.
