A new, accessible spray pad is coming to Bronx Park.

On Aug. 26, Couns. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan) and Jason Schreyer (Elmwood-East Kildonan), along with Rossmere MLA Andrew Micklefield and Bronx Park Community Club past-president Jos Gatien, announced that the existing wading pool would be replaced with an accessible spray pad, along with other park improvements.

“This is a great opportunity to work in collaboration with my council colleague and the Government of Canada on bringing an important new recreational amenity to the residents of North Kildonan and Elmwood–East Kildonan,” Browaty said. Summer memories are precious and I know the new splash pad will be very popular and a summer highlight for many families in the community.”

“People throughout both wards regularly use this busy community centre,” Schreyer added. “I am very pleased to work with Councillor Browaty on pooling our resources in a way that will benefit both of our wards and serve residents in six neighbourhoods.”

“The idea of saying goodbye to our wading pool is made easier knowing the increase of accessiblility that a splash pad provides to our young people,” Bronx Park Community Club president Evan Comstock said in a statement. “So many more kids will have a place to play and cool down while families now too will have another destination right here in our growing community. We can’t help but be excited for the endless hours of amusement to be enjoyed at Bronx Park’s new splash pad.”

Winnipeg city council approved funding for the project through the COVID-19 Economic Response and Recovery Plan. The budget for the project is estimated at approximately $993,000, with $906,000 of the project budget funded through the federal Canada Community-Building Fund and $87,000 from the City of Winnipeg. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023 and is expected to be complete by summer 2024.
