Grace Lutheran nativity scene an EK Christmas tradition

East Kildonan residents know that Christmas is near when they drive past Grace Lutheran Church this time of year.

Each year for the past 60 years, a handmade wooden nativity scene has adorned the yard at 211 Kimberly Ave.

“It was constructed in the old church (community hall) in the fall of 1962 by brother-in-laws Albert Langner, Ken Mutcher, and Jake Bay,” said lifelong area resident Les Langner, son of Albert. “The new church was built the following year.”
