Cineplex Junxion is a new all-in-one entertainment space at Kildonan Place — the first of its kind in Canada.
The all-inclusive entertainment centre opened Dec. 9 and features movies, live performances, more than 50 arcade-style games and dining – all under one roof.
“There’s something for you no matter what you’re looking for,” said Kevin Matthews, executive director of operations for Cineplex in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Cineplex Junxion Kildonan opened on Dec. 9 at Kildonan Place. It is a multi-faceted entertainment complex, featuring movies, arcade games, live music and dining.
The Junxion is a mixture between a theatre and a recreational room, and the newly reimagined venue replaces the multiplex cinema which opened at the mall in 1989. Matthews has given people tours of the facility and said seeing peoples’ reactions is one of his favourite things.
“We opened the doors and… the excitement on their faces as the live performances were happening, and the popcorn was popping — they were just elated as they came in,” Matthews said. “I think that moment was the most exciting for me.”
Live musical performances take place in the Junxion’s large, open lobby which features approximately 45 seats to sit as well as space for people to stand.
In December and January, you can catch live shows between 5 and 10 p.m. on Fridays; between 3 and 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 3 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Winnipeg musician and concert producer Romi Mayes, who books the performers, said the schedule may change in February.
“I’m just thankful that Cineplex has given Winnipeg another avenue to support the local music scene and a place where our community can gather to enjoy live music,” Mayes said.
Matthews said Cineplex has received a lot of positive feedback from guests about the experience and emphasized it was the staff that make it an engaging experience.
“It’s really the staff that make it come to life with the great service they’ve been providing … which has really brought this building to life,” Matthews said.
Construction is already underway on a second Junxion in Toronto, which Matthews said will be opening in the spring of 2023.
“I’m confident that when people come in and they see the building for the first time that they will be sold and it’ll be their new favourite movie destination,” Matthews said.
