Let’s Chip In depots open for Christmas tree recycling until Jan. 31

The holiday season is over for another year, and Winnipeggers can once again recycle their Christmas trees until the end of January. The City of Winnipeg’s Let’s Chip In Christmas tree recycling program enables residents to drop off their unbagged Christmas trees at one of a number of depots across the city.

Depots include:

Charleswood Centre — 3900 Grant Ave. (northwest corner of the Safeway parking lot along Haney Street, access off Haney Street) — 24-hour access;

Kilcona Park — Lagimodiere Boulevard and McIvor Avenue (in the off-leash dog park parking lot) — 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.;

Kildonan Park — 2015 Main St. (Rainbow Stage parking lot) — 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.;

King’s Park — 198 King’s Drive (south parking lot) — 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.;

Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depot — 1120 Pacific Ave. — weekdays (except Wednesdays): 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Wednesdays;

Panet 4R Winnipeg Depot — 429 Panet Rd. — weekdays (except Wednesdays): 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed: Jan. 1, every Wednesday;

St. James Civic Centre — 2055 Ness Ave. (northwest corner parking lot) — 24-hour access;

St. Vital Park — 190 River Road (south parking lot) — 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.;

Winnipeg Soccer Complex — 900 Waverley St. at Victor Lewis Drive — 24-hour access.

According to the city’s website, all decorations, tinsel, stands and plastic tree bags must be removed from the tree. Wood chip mulch will be provided free of charge, while quantities last, at all Let’s Chip In depots (except the 4R Winnipeg Depot locations) starting in early January, officials say. Please bring your own container.

Christmas trees can also be dropped off year-round for free at the 4R Winnipeg Depots, during regular hours of operation. Wood chips will not be available at these depots.
