In an attempt to bring good cheer to children in need this Easter, local Discovery Toys advisors are once again looking for donations to assemble Easter baskets for children and families who are accessing women’s shelters in Manitoba, as well as those staying at Ronald McDonald House Manitoba and Dignity House Inc.
Their goal is to assemble at least 250 baskets for kids between the ages of one and 16. Each basket would include a Discovery Toys game and/or toy, a book, toiletry products, Easter candy and other treats. Baskets can be sponsored for $30. WPFG wants you!
Organizers of the World Police & Fire Games, to be held from July 28 to Aug. 6 this summer, are looking for 2,800 local volunteers.
Volunteers will be involved in various capacities. The games involve more than 60 sports at over 40 venues in and around Winnipeg. Volunteers will be subject to criminal background checks at no cost to them. The registered volunteers will be called Finish Liners – the athletes are known as Front Liners – and will receive both general and sport-specific training. Finish Liners will be expected to be available for a minimum of three four-hour shifts.
“We expect more than 8,500 athletes to compete, meaning the Games need local volunteers to help us ensure that all athletes are well-directed and assisted throughout their competitions,” said Lilian Tankard, manager of volunteer services at WPFG.
For information regarding volunteering at the Games, please email volunteers@wpfg2023.ca or visit www.wpfg2023.com/volunteer
