Following previous disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bison Regional Science Fair will again be held in-person at Holy Cross School. This year’s fair will be held from April 18 to 20.

Dr. Anju Bajaj, a STEM educator and the fair’s founder and chair, said in a statement the organizers anticipate facilitating more than 200 science projects from across the province in grades 4 to 12, who will be able to share their interest in science with their peers, local experts, and the community at Holy Cross School.

“We are thrilled to be able to finally bring back in person the science fair after two years where it was not possible,” Bajaj said in the statement. “This is a unique opportunity for all students with any interest in science to share their discoveries and further their potential.”

Prizes are awarded in a number of categories, and top competitors earn the chance to participate in the Canada-Wide Science Fair and the International Science and Engineering Fair. The BRSF is affiliated with Youth Science Canada, and Team Bison Manitoba will be competing at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, the country’s largest annual youth STEM event. It will return to an in-person format next year and will be held from May 14 to 19 at the Edmonton Convention Centre, Bajaj said.

The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology is now an Innovation Champion sponsor of the fair, and its youth engagement team has joined forces with fair organizers to design a special e-mentoring program for the fair’s student participants.

“We are very thankful for our students, teachers, parents, supporters, sponsors, and judges for making this event possible,” Bajaj added. “The BRSF would not be able to bring together so many young scientists without the generous support of the community.”

Holy Cross School is located at 300 Dubuc St. in St. Boniface. Email bisonregional@gmail.com for information about prospective sponsorship opportunities. Go online at youthscience.ca/bison to learn more about the event.
