A group of local artists is inviting folks to “spring into summer” at its annual exhibition.

The Local Colour Art Group, made up of 76 members who meet weekly at 180 Poplar Ave., is again hosting its annual exhibition and art sale, starting Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23.

“It’s great,” said Joy Matsubara, Local Colour Art Group president.

“This will be our third show since COVID. We had the first two with all the restrictions in place, and everyone who participated was really good with that. But it’s been a year since we had one at all, so we’re all really excited.”

A group show had been planned in the fall of 2022, but had to be cancelled at the last minute.

“The first time we were able to have an event after COVID, we had a great response. Everyone was so excited,” added longtime member Janet Dent, who is helping organize the show.

“I feel as if the energy for this show is ramping up again. Of course, spring is a time of high energy, and the good weather is helping a lot.”

During COVID, Local Colour Art Group held regular weekly Zoom meetings for members to paint together, as well as other online offerings.

“Not only do we have Zoom, which we’ve also used for meetings and presentations to keep things inclusive, our new online system involves artists being able to upload images, their info and bio, so we can more easily update the website with artist’s galleries,” Dent noted.

“All those things are happening in the background to make the art show that much more exciting.”

The exhibition will kick off with an opening reception on Friday, April 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. The show will continue on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again Sunday, April 23 from noon to 4 p.m.

Along with the art sale, a raffle will be held in support of a local charity.

According to Matsubara, who has been a member of the group since 2012, 28 people are participating in the Spring into Summer show.

“It should be a good one,” she said.
