The most recent Riel community committee meeting took place on April 24, when a number of items on the agenda were approved or modified for further committee approval.
The committee endorsed Shakespeare in the Ruins’ upcoming productions of Twelfth Night and The Dark Lady as a community event, which will be held at the Trappist Monastery Provincial Heritage Park, and are scheduled to be held between May 31 and July 2, which includes a recommendation that an occasional liquor permit be issued. (Alcohol will not be served after the performances, as the provincial park must be vacated by 11 p.m., officials say.)
The committee concurred with the recommendation of the public service and approved the application for land dedication reserve funding for $9,250 from the Riel Land Dedication Reserve (St. Norbert-Seine River allocation) to help with the cost of the bollards and chain fencing project at Parc La Salle. The project start date is scheduled for this summer and the goal of the project is to enhance safety at the site and the adjacent school.

The applicant is proposing to construct two multi-family residential buildings, one eight-storey building containing 164 units and one six-storey building containing 75 units. There is also a proposed total of 356 parking stalls and 50 bicycle parking stalls.
The committee went against the recommendation of the public service regarding the land dedication reserve application by Centre culturel franco-manitobain for its Cool Streets 2023 pedestrian bridge improvements project. The committee recommended to the executive policy committee that the eligibility criteria for the fund be waived in this instance based on a number of criteria, and that funding of $9,000 – $7,500 from the St. Norbert-Seine River Ward and $1,500 from the St. Vital Ward allocations.
