Funding announced for splash pad in East St. Paul
On June 9, Red River North MLA Jeff Wharton was joined by East St. Paul mayor Carla Devlin and East St. Paul municipal councillors to announce $300,000 in funding through the provincial Building Sustainable Communities program for a splash pad in the municipality.
“Community projects such as this would not be possible without the strong leadership of the municipalities and non-profit organizations, leveraged funding from other public, private and philanthropic sources and the dedication of local volunteers,” Wharton said.

“Our municipality is growing and it’s important that we have spaces for people to get together, meet their neighbours and enjoy the summer months,” Devlin added. “We are thrilled to be able to offer a splash pad to have fun and cool down.”
Construction on the new pad, which is located between the daycare and arena at 266 Hoddinott Ave., is expected to begin later this summer.
City seeking input on Phase 3 of St. Boniface AT project
The City of Winnipeg is asking the public to weigh in on active transportation options for connecting the Esplanade Riel Footbridge and the multi-use path on Archibald Street south of Nairn Avenue.
The public is invited to attend a drop-in open house on Thursday, June 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Notre Dame Recreational Centre (271 Av. De la Cathedrale). Residents can also complete a survey online until Thursday, July 6.

Celebration of Life for Bob (Doc) Holliday to be held June 24
Bob (Doc) Holliday will soon be remembered at a public event.
A celebration of life will be held to commemorate Holliday, former president of the St. Vital Historical Society, who died earlier this year.
The event will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Vital Park (picnic space 2).
Donations to the St. Vital Historical Society and Museum will be accepted and appreciated, organizers say.
A longtime journalist, local wrestling promoter and keen supporter of local sports, Holliday wrote a column for The Lance and the East edition of the Free Press Community Review.

Hospital foundation’s Rosé Soirée set for Sept. 13
Community members have the chance to attend a stylish soirée for a good cause on the other side of summer.
According to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s website, tickets are now on sale for the organization’s Rosé Soirée, which will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Boniface Cathedral ruins (180 avenue de la Cathedralé).
Dress code for the event — which is described as a night of elegance, glamour and unforgettable memories — will be cocktail/semi-formal, organizers say.
Proceeds will be used to support women’s heart health research at St. Boniface Hospital.
